My First Post / Get to Know Me!

Written by:

Hello everyone! I use the term “everyone” very loosley as I am probably the only person who will see this for a while lol.

If you read my “About Me” page, 100 points to you, if not then boooo. Just kidding, I’ll tell you a little bit more about me! ;p

My name is Julia and I am here to talk about and show you guys the real and raw experience of having birds. Before I got birds of my own, I would always see these influencers with their huge flocks and birds who speak fluent english and are attached by the hip to their owners. Naturally, you assume that exactly how you think your experience is going to go. For some it does and for most, not so much.

When I was younger, I had 3 parakeets and they were my babies, my, heart, and my joy. One sadly passed and my dad forced me to give away the other two. (I was about 10-11 when that happened) Since then, I have been obsessed with birds and have always wanted another of my own. Over the years I have done extensive research about avian care all in hopes i would one day have another feathery best friend again.

This past Christmas, my mom surprised with a baby Parrolet! I was waiting for that day for so long that I immediately had an entire plan for my baby. His name was Lumie and he was the perfect most curious and loving thing i have ever interacted with. But of course, nothing lasts forever. Instantly I knew that he had looked ill but not fatally. Every day he needed assistance with cleaning the poo off oh his feathers and he was slowly getting more lethargic and slow. I made a vet appointment asap, he got some antibiotics and lab tests done. Unfortunatley the results could not have came fast enough and he sadly passed just two weeks after he found his forever home.

(he was extra cuddly with me, this is the day he passed)

Every day I still think about my baby and how close we would have been by now. I was fortunate enough to know the signs of illnesses in birds and was able to give him the treatment he needed as soon as he needed it. When I had Lumie I got him a lovebird friend names Luna but when he passed I got her another friend so she wasn’t mourning the loss of her best friend alone! (pictures below) Unfortunatley some people may not know that their bird being supper fluffy all the time isn’t always cute or that their birddie sitting at the bottom of their cage isnt normal and could be the start of their worst nightmare. Lumie is my biggest reason for this blog, so I can help and support other people’s bird journeys as much as I wish I could have with my baby boy.

So please stop by, pop in, leave a comment, question, or even advice! I’ll be here to help! (or even just listen)
